Video Editing Rates & Charges in India (2026)
Reviewed: October 8, 2026 · Sources retain their publication dates; tax example is for FY 2025–26
Fueler's published video editing charges in India are ₹1,000–₹3,000 for a basic 2–5 minute edit. Its social-video examples are ₹2,000–₹5,000 each. These are one publisher's benchmarks, not a national survey. Use the rupee price table and quote checklist below; international USD contracts and employee salaries are separate comparisons.
How much are video editing charges in India per video?
Fueler's published examples put a basic 2–5 minute edit at ₹1,000–₹3,000 and a corporate or brand film at ₹5,000–₹15,000. The table lists project fees in INR; employee salaries and USD hourly contracts are separate comparisons.
Salary is a different measure. Indeed reports ₹18,687/month from 958 salaries, with a displayed update date of May 25, 2026, checked October 8. That employee-pay figure is not a project fee or a freelance hourly quote. We do not infer the cause of differences between city averages without city-level sample information.
Local freelance work is usually quoted per video rather than per hour. Per Fueler's 2026 rate breakdown, its domestic hourly examples run ₹200–₹1,000. Its per-video examples are:
| Project type | Published example (INR) |
|---|---|
| Basic edit (2–5 min) | ₹1,000–₹3,000 |
| Social media video / reel | ₹2,000–₹5,000 |
| Corporate / brand film | ₹5,000–₹15,000 |
| Long-form (documentary, event) | ₹15,000–₹50,000+ |
| Monthly retainer (10–30 videos) | ₹25,000–₹1,50,000 |

How much does a 5-minute video edit cost in India?
₹1,000–₹3,000 is Fueler's example band for basic edits of 2–5 minutes. It describes cuts, trims, transitions and light corrections. It is not a fixed fee for any five-minute film: source-footage volume, captions, animation, audio repair and revision rounds need their own scope. For a quote tied to your workload, use estimated working hours rather than multiplying finished runtime by a universal per-minute price.
What should a video editing quote include?
Ask each editor to price the same brief. This outline you can copy is a scope checklist, not a market rate card:
Finished video: ___ minutes. Source footage: ___ minutes. Deliverables: ___ landscape / vertical exports. Include: ___ captions, ___ graphics and ___ audio work. Revision rounds: ___. Deadline: ___. Editing fee: ₹___. Extra revisions: ₹___ per hour or ₹___ per round. State separately whether filming, music licences and applicable taxes are included.
For the same brief, a hypothetical ₹500/hour rate with 4 editing hours and 1 revision hour gives ₹2,500 before any separately agreed costs. That is 5 working hours × ₹500, not a measured average and not ₹500 per finished minute. Our hourly versus project pricing guide explains the trade-off.
A monthly salary, an hourly contract and a fixed project price buy different commitments. Compare included hours, benefits, revisions and deliverables before treating one as better value than another.
The freelance ladder: $5 to $50+ an hour
For international remote work, Indian editors price on a steep experience curve. Vidpros' hiring guide has a 2026 title but labels the following hourly and monthly examples for 2025. They are publisher estimates, not a disclosed contract sample:
| Experience | Hourly rate | Separately listed full-time monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| New (1–2 years) | $5–$10 | $600–$1,000 |
| Mid-level (3–5 years) | $10–$25 | $1,000–$1,800 |
| Experienced (6–10 years) | $25–$50 | $1,800–$3,000 |
| Expert / specialist (10+ years) | $50–$100+ | $3,000–$5,000+ |

Hiring in India: how much does a video editor cost?
Fueler's published corporate-film examples are ₹5,000–₹15,000; Vidpros separately lists USD hourly and monthly examples. For clients, start with portfolio fit, an agreed brief and a paid test rather than assuming a lower country average guarantees equal work at a discount. Three practical checks (our guide to video editing charges and fees covers general budgeting):
- Compare like-for-like commitments. Vidpros lists $10–$25/hour and $1,000–$1,800/month for its mid-level category. These are separate published examples, not a promise of retention or an hourly-to-monthly conversion.
- Quote per project for predictability. India's per-video pricing culture works in your favor: a defined deliverable at ₹5,000–₹15,000 for a corporate piece is easier to compare and budget than open-ended hours. Our pricing-models guide covers when each structure wins.
- Agree on working-hour overlap. India uses UTC+5:30; the difference from a US client changes with that client's time zone and daylight saving. Confirm review windows and deadlines before booking.
Tax planning: check eligibility before setting your net rate
The following is a FY 2025–26 / AY 2026–27 example, not a blanket zero-tax promise for every video editor or a statement about the current tax year's filing rules.
- Professional presumptive income. Section 44ADA of the 1961 Act covers eligible resident individuals and non-LLP partnerships in specified professions. It uses 50% of gross receipts, or a higher amount claimed, with a ₹50 lakh receipt limit, extended to ₹75 lakh where cash receipts do not exceed 5%. ClearTax lists editors within film artists; your actual professional classification still matters. A lower-profit claim can trigger books and audit requirements.
- Rebate, not a universal exemption. The Income Tax Department's AY 2026–27 table lists a new-regime rebate up to ₹60,000 for eligible resident individuals with taxable income no higher than ₹12 lakh. Other income and special-rate income can change the result.
- Export status is conditional. A foreign client alone does not establish a zero-rated service. CBIC explains the export conditions. Check place of supply, payment, registration and LUT requirements for your circumstances. Karbon's export guide provides an additional explanation.
